An article and caption appeared in the Aug. 17 edition of the Levittown Tribune on the back sports page depicting Town of Hempstead officials honoring the Levittown Swimming Association and stating that the Lazy Days of Summer was hosted by the Levittown Swimming Association. A correction was printed on Page 2 of the Aug. 30 edition stating that the Levittown Community Council hosted the Lazy Days of Summer Picnic and is the host of all Levittown 60th Anniversary events. That is not the case.
All Levittown 60th Anniversary events are hosted by the Levittown 60th Anniversary Committee, a separate and distinct organization incorporated under the laws of New York State as Levittown Special Events, Inc.
The Levittown Community Council, like many other community organizations, has representation on the 60th Anniversary Committee.
Lazy Days of Summer has traditionally been a Levittown Community Council event and the Levittown Swimming Association has traditionally sponsored an annual Swim-a-Thon, but this year, LSA, LCC and the 60th Anniversary Committee joined forces to host both of these events on the same day as a special 60th Anniversary event.
Lowell Wolf, a member and past co-president of the Levittown Community Council, chaired the Lazy Days event for the Levittown Community Council; Mike and Kerry Fallarino chaired the Swim-a-Thon for LSA.
As co-chair of the Levittown 60th Anniversary Committee, I helped organize the day's activities along with my husband Mauro and many other dedicated 60th Anniversary volunteers, who, along with Mr. Wolf, were, regretfully, overlooked by Town of Hempstead officials when the citation was presented.
The Levittown 60th Anniversary Committee has hosted a number of enormously successful events throughout the year and continues on Sunday, Sept. 30 with a celebratory parade; on Sunday, Oct. 7 with an Historic Bike Tour; and on Saturday, Nov. 3 with a dinner dance to mark the end of the anniversary celebration.
Everyone is welcomed to participate in all anniversary events. Anyone wanting more information can visit the anniversary website at www.levittownspecialevents.org or contact me at 735-5901.
