Jean Churchill Moore

Jean Churchill Moore, 87, died peacefully at home on Aug. 5, 2007, supported by the love of family, friends, care-givers, and Hospice of Greensboro, NC. After a heroic life weathering the effects of polio since 1951 with wisdom and grace, including fifty-six years in a wheelchair, along with lovingly raising her family and caring for multitudinous friends and her garden, she went to her well-deserved rest.

A ceremony of remembrance was held with family and friends on Aug. 8 at Forbis & Dick Funeral Service, Greensboro. Urn burial will take place later in Massachusetts.

Born July 9, 1920, in Northampton, MA, Jean was an intensely curious and caring person who touched everyone she met. She always took the time to ask about the lives of her visitors. Jean enjoyed education at the Williston-Northampton School, Smith College and the Smith College School for Social Work. Despite her wheelchair, she was known to waltz, in her own way, while engaging her helpers in conversation. Her loving and well-loved husband William Walter Moore, a college professor, passed away in Greensboro on April 11, 1994.

She is survived by three children, all teachers from the inspiration of their parents: William Churchill Moore of Greensboro, Margaret Isabell Moore of California and Terence Jordan Moore of Maryland - along with seven grandchildren including Isabell Moore and Margaret Moore in town. Close relatives include Stephen Churchill of New York, Jordan Churchill of North Carolina and Robert Churchill of Oregon. Close friends are too numerous to list but Elizabeth Seymour, Nancy Walkowiak, Nego Crosson, Hermenia Milton, Lena Bembury, Midge Coston and Honey Zimmer must be mentioned.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Greensboro. On-line condolences may be offered at www.forbisanddick.com.
