Over the years, the home remodeling specialists at Levittown-based LevitStyle, Inc. has given back to the community with volunteer work and sponsorships. Which is why when they heard VFW Post 9592 on Hickory Lane was in "dire need of additional space," they donated their manpower.

LevitStyle President and architect Bill Mullan and his team of Levit-techs have been engineering, planning and rebuilding Levitt capes and ranches since 1996.

"Since I am the son of a veteran myself, I welcomed the opportunity for our company to be of service to both the veterans and the community," Mullan said. "I was happy to donate our manpower for this endeavor."

A few years back, Mullan and his team built a dormer for Phil Harbison, a member of the VFW.

"Recently when the veterans were looking for a contractor to do work on their building, Harbison recommended me to VFW Quarter Master Fred Wedin," Mullan explained.

When Wedin and the VFW members met with Mullan they were extremely pleased and grateful for his offer to donate labor on the project.

"We're very grateful for the work that they're doing and the contribution that they're making to the veterans and the Levittown community itself," Wedin, a Levittown resident since 1972, said. "It has a domino effect - by helping us out they help out other organizations also."

"We appreciate everything Bill's done for helping the veterans and for making it a more homey atmosphere for our aging World War II and Korean War vets," VFW Commander George Doll added.

Work on the 600-square foot hall began on July 9 and is expected to be completed soon.

"The building hasn't been worked on in over 40 years and was really falling apart," Wedin explained. "It really needed major renovation."

In Levittown since 1947, the nonprofit organization with approximately 350 members seeks to help all those in need, not solely veterans. They rely on volunteer work and donations from the community to carry out their mission.

"There are a lot of people that contribute to the veterans in one way or another," Wedin added.
