During the week of July 23, the Island Trees School District offered four separate sport camps. Island Trees Varsity Track Coaches Pete McNally and Lou Levy held a track and field camp for youngsters in grades 4-8. All the campers had the opportunity to learn about the events in a track and field meet.
Varsity Basketball Coach Tom Baierlein, assisted by Junior Varsity Coach Jim Conklin, conducted a boys' basketball camp. About 80 athletes in grades 4-8 had the opportunity to learn about all the aspects of the game of basketball. The campers had fun performing all the drills and being involved in many different games.
Varsity Wrestling Coach Damian Garcia and his assistant Rob Paletta conducted a camp for wrestlers in grades 9-12. The wrestlers had fun learning about the sport of wrestling.
Girls in grades 4-8 participated in a lacrosse camp. Varsity Coach Christine Morrow and Middle School Coach Tara Rooney, along with some of the varsity players, taught the girls all the particulars about lacrosse. The girls were involved in games emphasizing catching, cradling and throwing.
