On Tuesday, July 31, the boys and girls from LSA's eight pools will come together and swim as Team LSA as the association holds its 3rd Annual Swim-a-Thon. The event will take place at the Jerusalem Avenue Pool in Levittown from 4 to 9 p.m. Children Helping Children is once again the theme of the Swim-a-Thon as the swimmer representing Team LSA will collect pledges for laps they swim for the benefit of the Ronald McDonald House and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island. Representatives from both organizations will be on hand to cheer the swimmers on and a DJ will keep the pool rocking as the swimmers try to surpass the 350 miles they swam last year. The boys and girls have a blast, especially after swimming 72 laps (one mile) and making the sacred walk to the DJ booth to have their name and accomplishment announced. The walk back to the pool is always a big thrill for the swimmers (some as young as 6) as parents, volunteers, spectators and lifeguards always give them a nice applause for their accomplishment.
All are welcomed to come down and swim one (or more) laps for this special event. Contributions and donations for this charity fundraiser can be made to LSA. For further information visit www.levittownswimming.com.
On Sunday, July 22, the Levittown Swimming Association's eight teams paired off in three sections (North, South and Central) holding its annual Tri-Sectional swim meet. Swimmers qualifying for this meet had to finish either first or second at the Tri Pool meet held earlier in the week. Teams representing the South were Acorn, Bluegrass and Slate; Central were represented by Azalea, Jerusalem and Wolcott; and, North by Carman and West. Head coaches typically use the Tri Sectional Meet as a barometer for the upcoming championship meet held on Aug. 11-12. The team from South won the meet, Central was second and North was third.
Next up for LSA is the Novice Meet on Sunday, July 29. The meet is geared towards first time swimmers and those who have not won a medal in a LSA event. The meet will be held at the Jerusalem Avenue Pool and starts at 10 a.m.
