On Sunday, July 8, the Levittown Swimming Association kicked off its 52nd swim season with its traditional Relay Carnival Meet at the Jerusalem Avenue pool in Levittown. Relay Carnival is a fun meet which features 26 relay races for boys and girls, ages 7 to 18, in the various strokes (free, back, breast and fly).
LSA's new president, Carol Wyckoff, said, "The meet could not be run so efficiently without the dedication of its volunteer coaches and members who put in an enormous amount of time during the swim season."
Rostering a relay meet is no easy feat and takes hours to complete. Also critical to running the meet are the many volunteers who help with various tasks that must be performed.
LSA also held the first of their two scheduled food drives with each swimmer contributing a nonperishable food item. The Kiwanis Club is responsible for distributing the food to families in the Levittown area.
Next up for LSA is a tribute to Levittown's 60th Anniversary. A Swim-a-Thon will be held on Saturday, July 14th at the Jerusalem Avenue Pool. A live DJ will kick off the event at 10 a.m. with the first 300 swimmers receiving their free commemorative 60th Anniversary tee shirts, a sure collectors item.
