Longtime Levittowner Bob Koenig has released a new CD, titled Abbey Lane, which features eight folk songs about Levittown.

Koenig said his inspiration for his latest CD was the numerous organizations and events in Levittown.

"I enjoy and respect this town very much, especially the veterans that began this first suburb," he said. "I also have a degree in popular culture and have written articles about Levittown."

So he decided to combine both loves into one, and the writing of the songs followed suit. The title of the CD came from hearing the name of the school his mother-in-law attended, Abbey Lane. This made him think of the Beatles album, Abbey Road and hence came the idea for the cover photo.

A member of the Levittown Historical Society and Levittown Community Council, Koenig possesses a deep appreciation for the town's rich history.

"One track, Levittown, even has the voice of William Levitt himself on it. News 12 allowed me to use this interview," he said. "I also co-wrote two songs with local poet Wendell Storms."

While Koenig's music-making isn't his only career, he has enjoyed it for over two decades.

"I have been in several bands, The Keys being the most popular," he said. "We were on Dance Party, USA on the USA cable network in 1988 but have had other solo projects."

Koenig lives in Levittown with his wife, Jessica and son, Jonny, 8, who both sing on one song, Hey, Levittown.
