(Editor's Note: This letter was originally sent to Polly Dwyer at the Levittown Historical Society and is being reprinted here at the author's request.)
My sister-in-law and I just returned from a three-day trip to Western Long Island, including Sagamore Hill, the Vanderbilt Estate, Nassau County Art Museum, the Whaling Museum, Planting Fields and the towns of Northport, Cold Spring Harbor and Huntington. But best of all was our drive through Levittown and our tour of the museum at the Levittown Historical Society.
Below is my note to Polly Dwyer, the Society's president, afterwards:
Betsy and I want you to know how very much we enjoyed the tour you gave us of the Levittown Museum. You imparted all the knowledge, authenticity and love you have gained over all these years of being a Levittown resident yourself, and no other exhibit could match that. And what treasures the museum has amassed - the scale models, an original kitchen, photographs, furniture, memorabilia. It all made us feel we were right there in the 1940s and 50s when the great project was new. Thank you very much for working out all the arrangements with me and for opening the museum for us specially. It was the highlight of our Long Island visit.
Mrs. Tomeo, if the Levittown Tribune wishes to reprint this as a Letter to the Editor, edited as needed, or otherwise recognize Mrs. Dwyer and the museum, I would welcome your doing so. They deserve it.
