  • Sports: Island Trees High School Athletics

The varsity baseball club ended week 1 of the season with a 15-1 win over Hewlett. The win put the Bulldogs at 3-0 in league play and in a tie with Clarke for first place in League A4, arguably, the toughest division in all of Nassau Sports. The Bulldogs were led by their outstanding pitching once again. Dave Darcy tossed a complete game two-hitter, allowing no walks and striking out 9. The Island Trees pitching staff has allowed only three runs in 21 innings so far this season. Junior catcher Paul DelGiacco went three for three with four RBIs on the day. DelGiacco's bases clearing triple in the first blew the game wide open. Junior right fielder Shaun Rutherford went two for three with three RBIs, including a hard hit double into the teeth of a tough wind. FULL STORY
