The Levittown Property Owners Association met on Feb. 13, with Vice President Andy Booth presiding in the absence of President Jim Morrow. Jim is recovering from his second surgery in January. As the news of an impending ice storm was announced for later in the evening, the meeting was abbreviated so that the members who braved the inclement weather could return home safely.
Only two executive board members were present as our membership chairperson, Jean Towell, is recovering from heart surgery, and treasurer, George Gibson, was also ill. The members present discussed some of the events celebrating Levittown's 60th anniversary scheduled for this year. These include an exhibit which opened recently at the museums at Stony Brook featured in a Newsday article, the popular, well-attended Winter Festival sponsored by the Levittown Community Council held at the Memorial Education Center on Feb. 10, a fashion show at St. Bernard's Church to be held on March 10, the ongoing exhibits of the Levittown Historical Society Museum at the Memorial Education Center, and the dramatization of a story on Levittown to be produced by Hofstra University.
With the president of the Levittown Community Council, LPOA member, Gary Fisch, and LPOA, Historical Society Board, and Community Council board member, Bob Koenig, present, the membership voted for the LPOA to join both these organizations. The yearly organization membership dues are $50 for each. The issue will be discussed further.
The next meeting of the LPOA will be on March 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Levittown Library Community Room.
