I met Doug through my brother Jamie Nelson in the beginning of the '70s when we had the "Nelson Parties" at our house on Blacksmith Road. Through the years Doug was always the same great guy with the same terrific personality that never wavered. He always welcomed you with open arms and a smile that could light up a room. Throughout the years he brought all of the joy and happiness in knowing him plus much more to us and now the generation of "our children" including my two sons. Not only was he the best baseball coach and mentor to all the kids he coached but he was also the best father to his children and to his wife Kathy. When I would see him and Kathy together you never saw a couple so much in love with each other. My heart goes out to Kathy and the children, both his and Kathy's. Doug is going to be missed so much by so many people.

I am so happy and proud that I knew Doug not only as a coach/teacher but as a friend and was so thrilled to be at the DAHS dedication of the baseball field to him, he really deserved it.
