When I looked in the dictionary for a definition of the word "coach" the name Douglas K. Robins is right there in black and white, next to John Wooden. Doug Robins epitomized everything great about Levittown athletics. His reputation as a wonderful teacher, successful coach and a genuine, caring human being makes me proud to say I am from Levittown. I do remember him as a tough competitor who did not like to lose, but always treated everyone with dignity and respect. He was the total "Class Act" both on and off the court. I first met Doug in the gym of Levittown Memorial in the early '70s where he would play basketball with the varsity and JV players on Saturday mornings. Even back then, as an immature teenager I could see how important it was for him to share his knowledge with the younger players on the court. You could see then, this man possessed all the "right stuff" and was destined to become the consummate "coach." I have three brother-in-laws that had the privilege of playing for Coach Robins at both LMHS and DAHS and each hold him in the highest regard as in every player he ever coached. His legacy may be as the greatest high school coach in Levittown athletic history but he will be remembered by the hundreds of relationships he fostered during his rewarding tenure as a mentor to many.
