On Feb. 10-11 Levittown artist, Leigh Chapman Macario opened her month-long exhibit in Levittown at Lady Anne's Vintage Tea Room and Gift Shoppe on the corner of Hempstead Turnpike and Wantagh Avenue.

Many Levittown residents and graduates of Island Trees attended. A featured work is the pictured award-winning Levitt house. It was an illustrated paper mosaic created as a parting gift for original owners, neighbors who retired and moved out of their Levitt house in the autumn of 1993.

Four years later the work garnered an award at the Levittown 50th anniversary art show in 1997. This year the new owners of that same Levitt house were given a framed print of the work by Leigh's family and now holds a sentimental place of honor on their mantle piece.

Chapman Macario began exhibiting her art with her mother who is also a painter at the Long Island Fair as a youth and in then again during the Levittown 50th anniversary art show at Levittown Hall.

Mother and daughter were both featured artists in the month long two woman exhibition at the Levittown Public Library in 2003.

Chapman Macario received the senior art award and the Sidney Seif Art Award upon graduation from Island Trees High School. She credits her family and Island Trees School District art departments and classroom teachers from kindergarten through twelfth grade for nurturing her aspirations in this field.

She went on to graduate with her bachelor of fine arts degree from New York City's Fashion Institute of Technology. She then designed at Radio City Music Hall at Peter Max Studio and was commissioned by Borders Books and Music to paint three murals including the one in the former Levittown store. Borders also carried her greetings cards.

She was also on staff at the Nassau County Museum of Art in Roslyn Harbor Long Island, where 40 works of her art were exhibited in the summer of 2006.

This exhibit runs through March 17 at Lady Anne's Vintage Tea Room and Gift Shoppe, located at 3711 Hempstead Tpke. in Levittown. On March 17 from 3 to 6 p.m. there will be a Meet the Artist Closing Reception.
