The Annual Nassau County Boys' Soccer Awards Dinner was held last week with Island Trees being very well represented with seven players receiving awards. Awards given out were All Conference to Kyle Riegel, John Pascale, Nick O'Brien and Matt D'Albenzio. All County Honorable Mention went to Stephan Barea and All County to Matt Brownstone and Byron Foong. Also, Coach Radcliffe was rewarded with Conference Coach of the Year for Conference ABC III.
The girls' junior varsity basketball team played Plainedge in a non-league game. The girls played well, but the game ended in a loss. Scoring for the Lady Bulldogs was Lisa Barenzano with nine points, Angelina DeLardi with eight, Anne Badolato with four, Meghan Carey with three and Renee Balvin and Rebecca Burleson scored two points apiece. In addition, Brianna Meehan and Michelle Giordano did a nice job defensively. Meghan Carey played extremely tough, but had to exit the game early after she tried to save a ball from going out of bounds. She had to get four stitches in her elbow. The team is continuing to be aggressive and to work hard. The team then played an excellent game against New Hyde Park. The girls lost 44-33, but it was a close game that was very exciting. Scoring for the Lady Dogs was Anne Badolato and Rebecca Burleson with eight points each, Angelina DeLardi with six, Renee Balvin and Jessica Beissel with four points each, Michelle Giordano with two and Lisa Barenzano with one point. In addition, Rebecca Burleson, Michelle Giordano and Jessica Beissel played fantastic defense. All of the girls played aggressive and they worked well together.
The boys' bowling team had a rough week. They lost to Plainedge and MacArthur. Despite the team's loss, junior Ed Noblesala had a very successful day against Plainedge. He rolled eight strikes in a row during the first game. Then he topped himself in the third game with 10 strikes in a row. Ed's high game that day was a 289 with a 781 series. He has been on fire, so even though the team was upset about the losses, they were all cheering on their teammate, Ed.
The eighth grade boys' basketball team defeated Plainedge. Kyle Schamberger led the way with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Mike Witteck added 13 points and five assists. The team did an excellent job on the defensive end, holding Plainedge to 37 points. Jawad Tassawer had his best game of the season, scoring eight points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Dominick Raucci continued his improved play, driving hard to the basket to cause fouls as well as grabbing rebounds, making steals and adding three assists. Nic Jorge had the shot of the season with a Dr. J-like scoop lay-up late in the fourth quarter. Also scoring for the Bulldogs was Aidan Meehan with four points, Casey Hastings with three, Joe Esposito and Joe Zelaskowski with two points and Dave Grecsek with one.
