The Island Trees Girls JV Basketball team has been preparing for their upcoming season. The girls have been working hard during practice and are anticipating a successful season. The team is made up of eight sophomores and five freshmen. The returning sophomores are Meghan Carey, Angelina DeLardi, Rebecca Burleson, Stephanie Rogers, Lisa Barenzano, Danielle Hastings and Renee Balvin. Brianna Meehan is a sophomore who is joining the team for the first time this season. The freshmen are Jessica Beissel, Anne Badolato, Jaclyn Carabott, Kathryn Bruno and Michelle Giordano. Their enthusiasm and teamwork hope to work to our advantage at our first non-league game against Syosset.
Congratulations to the girls bowling teams on their wins over Wantagh. Excellent games were bowled by Amy Strickland with a 176, Heather Mitchell with a 161 and great job by Tara Ludewig and Ashley Alesi on their excellent games.
Congratulations to the boys bowling team for defeating Wantagh 8-3. Highlights were: Nick Testut with a 220, Nick Muccio with a 234 and Ed Noblesala with a series of 752 and a high game of 268.
The boys 7th grade basketball team opened their season with a win against Woodland. The final score was 52-46. The team was led by Jason Oder who had 18 points and 20 rebounds. Joe Howard also contributed 7 points while Mike Jeannetti and Kyle Nigro each had 5. Other standouts were James Day who had 4 points and Mike Gronenthal, Matt Castillo, John Huller and J.T. Famularo showed tremendous defense.
The boys 8th grade basketball team lost to a tough Woodland team. Mike Witteck led the team with 11 points, Kyle Schamberger added 8 points and 10 rebounds and Joe Zelaskowski and Joe Esposito each had 2 points. Everyone on the team did a great job on the defensive end to hold Woodland to 39 points.
