The Levittown Public Library held its annual Recognition Day on Oct. 29 in the library's Mildred B. Cantor Community Room to recognize several individuals who have given service and support to the library.
The board of trustees honored the service of former library trustee, Dennis Conway, retiring staff member Lorraine Emproto and staff members who have completed 25 years of service: Sybil Hammer, Margaret Kapinos, and Lisa Jean Santer. They also acknowledged the support given to the library by the Friends of the Levittown Public Library.
Conway received a plaque for his work with the library. He was responsible for getting the children's room added to the library as well as the elevator and new chairs.
Conway was recovering from a quadruple bypass, so his wife, Shirley, accepted on his behalf. She read a letter where Conway thanked the board and his wife for the recognition.
Emproto, retiring staff member, also received a plaque and stated that, "I never envisioned being a librarian as a child; I wanted to be an actress or something like that. I came into this profession very late in life, but have enjoyed it very much."
Members who had completed 25 years of service were acknowledged.
Hammer works in the technical services department and said that working there had been wonderful. "I can't believe 25 years have gone by. I think I'm growing old in the library," she stated.
Kapinos agreed and said that she loved working for the library a lot.
Santer has enjoyed working with arts and crafts in the children's room and said, "I feel too young to have spent 25 years here and will probably spend another 25 years here."
Friends of the Levittown Public Library, established in 2002, were recognized by the board and thanked for their services and for being advocates who helped to get the budget passed.
Friends, family and community members attended the ceremony that lasted from 3 p.m. to about 5 p.m.
Legislator, Dennis Dunne, Sr. attended the event and recalled that four generations of Dunne's had made use of the library and stated, "We really love our library system."
