Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray (right) and Councilman Gary Hudes (left) accept a $10,000 check from Assemblyman Joseph Saladino to be used for the expansion of the parking field at Frederick J. Neist Memorial Sports Complex.

Assemblyman Joe Saladino presented a $10,000 New York State "check" to Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilman Gary Hudes recently. The funds will be used for a much needed parking lot expansion project at the Frederick J. Neist Memorial Sports Complex.

The parcel of land being used for the expansion was made available by the demolition of a Town of Hempstead Water Department well house that is no longer in use.

Neist Memorial Sports Complex, located on Jerusalem Avenue in Levittown, is one of the many sports fields throughout the town utilized by local youth sports leagues. The park includes baseball and football playing fields, and is home to the Red Devil football league.

"We are very appreciative of Assemblyman Saladino's efforts in securing the funds needed for the parking lot expansion," remarked Murray. "With the $10,000 gift, we will be able to complete the project entirely in-house."

"The additional parking area will help to eliminate on-street parking, which is a safety issue especially during football season," commented Hudes.
