It was a big weekend for the junior varsity Bulldogs. The Dawgs defeated a tough Glen Cove team in impressive fashion 46-28. Both teams came out fired up and ready to play as each offense scored twice in the first quarter. The Bulldogs finally settled down and took control of the game leading at halftime 28-12. The Bulldog never trailed and had an overall team effort to secure the win. Manny Montilva did a very nice job at center, filling in for the injured Justin Habermehl. John Howard and Ryan McAdam had huge blocks all day on offense to give the running backs big runs. The offense and defensive line crew of A.J. DeMartino, Chris Nickel, Mike Caldarera and Dan Nicolino played very well on both sides of the ball. Anthony Ciaravino was a vicious force on defense with 8 huge tackles. Anthony Ciaramitaro did another nice job commanding the offense and leading them up and down the field. Once again the Bulldogs received top-notch performances from Anthony Wrightington and Bryan Verbitsky. Wrightington finished with an astounding 372 all-purpose yards. Wrightington carried the ball 25 times and rushed for 272 yards with five touchdowns. Defensively, Wrightington had a monster hit which forced a fumble recovered by Verbitsky. Bryan also had an impressive day, leading the defense with tackles and another solid offensive performance. Verbitsky carried the ball 18 times and rushed for 185 yards with one touchdown and also adding to the scoring with four two-point conversion runs. Overall the Bulldogs had a total team effort and dominated all facets of the game. Due to the playoff system, the junior varsity Dogs will get another chance to play Bethpage at home in the final game of the season. The Bulldogs are currently 4-3.
The Football team lost a tough game to Weber 19-6. The A team played a fabulous game on both side of the ball. Weber's offense could do nothing against the ominous defensive wall created by the Bulldogs. Erick Flores, Mike Valencia, Chris Altamura, Peter Tucci, Joe and Mike Esposito and the rest of the A team created havoc in Weber's backfield and shut them down in the first quarter. With the start of the second quarter, the B team defense game went out onto the field trying to keep alive their streak of two and a half games without allowing a touchdown. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end and Weber was able to convert on a third and long with a lucky pass that extended their drive. Before the quarter ended, the Bulldogs were down by two scores, but still had plenty of fight left in them. Despite having to play through overwhelming adversity, the Bulldogs hung tough until the end and left the field with their heads held high after the B team offensive line clobbered the Weber defense and helped Ryan Macdonald to race 50 yards for a touchdown as the clock ran out.
The girls' 8th grade soccer team ended their season with a 4-0 win against Salk. Goals were made by Andrea, Erin, Sarah and Kaitlyn. Their record is 3-5-1.
