The Eighth Squad of the Nassau County Police Department reported the arrest of one man from Levittown and one man from Amityville on Sunday, Aug. 27 at 2:20 a.m. Both were arrested for multiple criminal mischiefs, which occurred in Levittown.
According to detectives Eighth Precinct officers responded to Center Lane and Academy Lane for the report of disorderly youths banging on street signs. Upon their arrival police found the defendants, Alexis Cruz, 18, of Levittown and Alejandro Vasquez, 17, of Amityville on Center Lane and Knoll Lane. Both were in possession of black ink markers, police reported. After a police investigation, it was determined that the defendants had used the markers to write graffiti on approximately 19 street signs and one utility pole, all owned by the Town of Hempstead, police state. Defendant Vasquez was arrested without incident, while defendant Cruz allegedly struggled with police officers, but was eventually arrested without injury.
Vasquez and Cruz were both charged with Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree and Possession of a Graffiti Instrument and Cruz was also charged with Resisting Arrest. Both were arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Aug. 27.
