Wayne Corrigan

Wayne Corrigan, 49, a native of Levittown, lost his battle with heart and lung disease and died on July 12, 2006 of cardiac arrest.

Wayne was a pitcher on the Division Avenue High School baseball team and was all-county pitcher in 1974 and 1975. He was the starting quarterback on the football team, leading the team to an undefeated regular season in 1975. His former teammates described him as a winner on and off the field. He was known for his leadership skills and strong right arm.

An ex-teammate, Bill Euell of Orange, CA, said, "I played baseball with and against Wayne for about 10 years and he was without a doubt the best pitcher I have ever played with. We also played football together at Division and his record as our QB speaks for itself."

One of Wayne's closest friends, Steve Coglianese of Farmingdale, said, "Wayne was always looking out for me and he was always there at the drop of a hat when I needed him for anything. He was a superstar athlete and more importantly a stand-up guy."

In 1975 Wayne visited his brother Skip who was in the Army stationed in Fort Gordon, GA. He was 15 years old and two years away from throwing three no hitters in the Levittown West Little League. He put on an Army baseball uniform and pitched for his brother's intramural team at Fort Gordon.

"Wayne was always a big kid and had a strong arm. Being so young and playing against a bunch of soldiers, he really showed what he was made of that day, " said Skip Corrigan of Levittown.

Wayne attended Central Arizona Community College on a baseball scholarship. Wear and tear on his arm from years of pitching ended his dreams of playing professionally, his brother said. Wayne was a supervising messenger for the State Supreme Court for six years.

Wayne is survived by his brother Skip; his daughter Megan E. Corrigan of Brunswick, GA; and his sister Regina Ochwat of Farmingdale.
