Three girls from the Island Trees High School Varsity Soccer team participated in the recent Empire State Games in Rochester. Senior Sarah Burleson, junior Valerie Ahrens and sophomore Meghan Carey played major roles for their Long Island team.

In their first game, Long Island lost an exciting game to the eventual silver medal winner, the Adirondack team 3-2. In their second game, Long Island gave up an early goal to the eventual bronze medalist team Hudson Valley and was unable to convert a tying goal, losing 2-1.

Their third game was by far their best as Long Island totally controlled play, and outscored the team from New York City 3-0.

The girls appreciated the opportunity to participate in the games, playing against great competition while making new friends, and look forward to participating in future events.
