Dowling College Coach Tim Boyle, a resident of Wantagh, was named the 2006 USILA National Coach of the Year after guiding the Golden Lions to their first ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Golden Lions finished with a school record 12-2 overall record, ranking #2 nationally in the USILA coaches poll.

The 2006 campaign was a historic one for the Golden Lions. The New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) co-champions had impressive regular season victories against #10 Limestone, #7 Molloy, #6 Adelphi, #5 NYIT and #3 Mercyhurst. The team finished their outstanding season falling to Le Moyne, 12-5, in the national championship game.

Boyle is the first Dowling coach to win national coach of the year honors, for any sport. This year he was also named NYCAC Coach of the Year, voted on by his colleagues. During his six years as head coach, Boyle has amassed a 51-29 (.637) record.
