The boys varsity baseball club took one on the chin with a tough loss to Glen Cove by the score of 7-3. Defensive miscues and bad breaks were the story in this game. With the Bulldogs trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Matt Acton singled with two outs. Justin Muscarella then followed with a two-run homer to tie the score. However, the Bulldogs gave it right back in the top of the fifth by surrendering five runs of which three were earned. Island Trees scored in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single by Dave Darcy. Matt Gelormino pitched great in relief, keeping the Bulldogs in the game. He went two and two-third innings allowing no hits and one walk while striking out two.

Matt Christoffersen's four-inning effort paced the junior varsity Bulldogs baseball squad to a 6-3 victory over Glen Cove. Christoffersen struck out six and walked none, while letting up three unearned runs upping his record to 5-0 on the year. Helping Matt out was the 4-4 performance of Eric Fazio, chipping in with two doubles and two steals. Nick Marchelos came up strong as well by going 2-3 with three RBIs. Joe Muscarella also was a flash on the base paths with three runs scored. Once again Eric O'Reilly provided a clutch performance by earning his first save of the year with three shutout innings in relief.

Andy Kahl, in his first start at home this season, improved his undefeated record to 6-0 on the season with a complete game 4-2 victory over Glen Cove. With this win, the junior varsity Bulldogs baseball squad continued their hot streak by raising their record to 14-1-1 on the season overall, with a 12-1-1 record in league play. In his fine effort, Andy struck out five batters while walking no one. He and Dan Schulz chipped in with RBI singles while the defense played a crucial role in protecting a tenuous lead.

The girls varsity softball team defeated Bethpage 4-1. Jillian McGovern went 2-4 with two RBI's and Lauren Poplawski struck out seven, allowing no walks and only three three hits. Every player took part in this victory. The Lady Dawgs also defeated Clarke by the score of 7-0. Jillian McGovern, Beth Hughes and Meghan Biondolillo each tacked on some RBIs and Alysha Ciaramitaro hit another home run. Lauren Poplawski and Colleen Cunningham did a great job holding down the defense.

The girls junior varsity softball team had an outstanding win against Bethpage scoring eight runs and only giving up one. Outstanding pitching by Stephanie Kaiser and great catching by Nichole Coradini. Good plays in the infield by Danielle Hastings, Danielle Doller, Stephanie Fabis, Kristin Vesely, Laura Benvenuto and Ashley Alesi. Both Jesse Ciserano and Valarie LaSala made outstanding catches in the outfield. The Lady Dawgs also had an outstanding win over Clarke 13-5. Stephanie Kaiser did an excellent job pitching with nine strikeouts. Nichole Coradini also had a great game behind the plate. Great fielding plays were made by Valarie LaSala, Jesse Ciserano and Stephanie Fabis. The girls also had some huge hits. Ashley Alesi had a two-run RBI single, Danielle Doller had a two-run homerun and Danielle Hastings had a double, scoring two runs.

The boys junior varsity lacrosse team defeated Wheatley by the score of 14-3. John Thearle led the steady Bulldog offense with five goals and five assists. Goals were scored by James McLaughlin, Jesses Tudda, Rick McCurry, Stephan Barea and Billy Gladitsch. Joe Cataldo and John Howard had 2 goals each. Goalie Anthony Avitable and the defense shut down the Wheatley offense for most of the day. The win puts the team record to a total of 8 and 6.

The girls junior varsity lacrosse team defeated Great Neck North 6-3. Goalies Victoria DallaChiara and Maritza Mazzara had several great saves. Gaetana Gambino and Claire Hughes were part of an unstoppable defense that allowed very few shots on goal. Brianne Lopez and Andrea Fragoletti both scored goals to lead the Lady Bulldogs. The team improved to 6-0 in league play with a stunning victory over Bellmore-Kennedy. Briana Meehan scored five goals and Brianne Lopez scored two in a 14-2 blowout. Once again goalie Victoria DallaChiara made several impressive saves. Liz and Sarah Haughney showed impressive stick skills on defense and in the midfield.

After an unexpected loss to Clarke, the Varsity Badminton team came back with a 4-3 win over up-and-coming East Rockaway. Conference bound Amy Strickland, Lauren Wielgus, Michelle Gruber, Emily Koutsoftas, Katie Blauvelt and Brittany Guerrini all came through with steady two game wins. The pressure was on 4th Doubles Sanna Rana and Nicole Vargas. They took the Rocks down in three tough games to clinch the win for the Lady Dawgs. The Island Trees Boys and Girls Varsity Track teams competed at the Cold Spring Harbor Invitational. The girls were led by Michelle Duffy who finished second in the Steeplechase in her first time ever running the event. Her time of 7:27.6 is currently second best in the county. Other strong performers for the girls were Samantha Cranmer who ran the 200 in 26.8 and Kristen Walsh who ran the 200 in 28.6. The boys were led by Julio Fuentes (200 in 23.4), Carmelo Torres (200 in 24.2), Joe Ambrosio (200 in 24.2), Geory Bastien (200 in 25.1), Pat Sarris (triple jump 37'), Chris LoFaso (long jump 19'6"), Don Ascoli (long jump 18'4"), Christian Paez (400 in 57.4) and Matt Murray (110 high hurdles). The seventh grade baseball team defeated Hicksville by the score of 8-3, improving their record to 3-1. Ryan Macdonald pitched his way to a win by striking out six and giving up one earned run through four innings. Offensively, Mark Sanchez, Mike Creagh, Mike Manganiello, Ryan Macdonald and Joe Zelaskowski had hits. Joe also went 4-4 with two singles, a double and a triple. The boys middle school lacrosse team played Plainview and showed everyone how they can really play. Goals were scored by Tom Enders, Tyler Walsh, Pat Lehosky and Mike Esposito and George Athan had two goals apiece. Goalies Joe Gombar with five saves and David Grecsek with eight kept the boys in the game. "The whole team played really hard and with a lot of heart. They should be very proud of themselves," said Coach Griffith.
