The Varsity Baseball Club defeated Great Neck North 13-0. Dan Hart pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only four hits and inducing 14 groundball outs. Dan is now 3-0. Dave Darcy turned in a "web gem" with an all out dive to his left at third base and came up firing to throw out Mike Linell. Justin Muscarella and Anthony Jeannetti were both solid in the field. The bats were led by Joe Vaskas, who went four for five including two solo homeruns. Pete Marchelos homered deep to left in the sixth inning. Pete also added two RBI's. Frankie Baglivo went four for five with a triple and a double. Paul Manganiello and Justin Muscarella both added two hits apiece.

The Varsity Baseball Club next defeated Great Neck North 9-3. Steve Perkowski tossed a complete game, scattering seven hits, two walks and striking out seven. His record is now 3-0. Peter Marchelos went two for four with two big doubles, while scoring two runs and driving in one. Dave Darcy continued his fine play going two for three highlighted by a double. Matt Acton went two for four with two RBI's in the victory. Once again the Bulldogs played errorless baseball defensively.

The Varsity Baseball Club then pushed its overall record to 3-0 with a dramatic come from behind victory over New Hyde Park by the score of 8-3. After trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth with one out, the Bulldogs staged a comeback. Peter Marchelos' bases-clearing three RBI triple put Island Trees ahead for good. Dan Hart came on in relief of Matt Gelormino to pick up the win on the mound. Hart tossed 2 1/3 innings of scoreless ball, striking out five and allowing no hits.

The Varsity Softball team defeated Oyster Bay 4-1. Beth Hughes had two RBI's with her triple to give the Lady Bulldogs a 2-1 lead. Then Jillian McGovern hit a bases-loaded single with two outs in the seventh inning to bring in two more runs. Pitcher Lauren Poplawski had seven strikeouts.

The Varsity Softball team won another one by defeating West Hempstead 3-2. Alysha Ciaramitaro had all three RBI's for the Lady Dawgs, hitting an RBI single and a two-run homerun.

The Lady Bulldogs Varsity Softball team did it again defeating Wantagh 5-2. Lauren Poplawski went three for three, Alysha Ciaramitaro went two for four with two RBI's and Beth Hughes hit a three-run triple to give the Lady Dawgs a 5-2 lead. Also, a big congratulations to Kristine Cunningham on her first varsity complete game win.

The Varsity Badminton team had a very impressive 5-2 win over the Wantagh Warriors. Shuyang Yao played her best match with a tough and gritty 3-game comeback to put the Lady Bulldogs in a solid lead. Congratulations to First Doubles Katie Blauvelt and Brittany Guerrini as they are undefeated at 8-0 and have already qualified for the Individual Conference Championships in May.

A powerful performance was made this week as the Island Trees Girls' Varsity Lacrosse team (Conference IV) faced Jericho (Conference III). The team was down 3-2 at halftime, but fought hard until the end with Samantha Modik scoring one of her two goals off an assist from Meghan Sguigna, tying the score at 7-7 with 1:27 left. Meaghan Davis led the team with three goals and two assists. Also scoring were Meghan Sguigna and Rebecca Burleson each scoring once. Sarah Burleson worked hard to control the draw, fought for ground balls and made nice transitions. Defenders Jen Reno, Gina Ciaravino and Heather Mitchell communicated on the field making it difficult for Jericho. Dom Witteck had her best game yet with 14 saves. Jericho scored with under a minute left making the final score 8-7.

The JV Girls' Lacrosse team continued their successful season with a 12-3 win at home over Roslyn. Briana Meehan had four goals and Kaitlyn Mongiardo had a personal best three goals to lead the Lady Dawgs to victory. Lindsay Srour led an aggressive defense that held the opponents to very few shots on goal. This win pushed the JV girls' record to 3-0. The team suffered a loss in a non-league game vs. Hicksville. Team highlights included several great saves by goalie Victoria DallaChiara.

The JV Boys' Lacrosse team defeated the Jericho Jayhawks 7-1. Kevin Vilbig had two goals while Billy Gladitsch, Stephan Barea, John Thearle, John Howard and Tom Willoughby all added their own in the decisive victory. Goalie Anthony Avitable once again led the defense by allowing only a single goal and recording over a half-dozen saves.

The JV Boys' Lacrosse team won it's fifth game in a row by defeating the Mineola Mustangs 7-3. Mineola took an early lead, but John Thearle got the Bulldogs on the scoreboard and they never looked back. Key goals by Billy Gladitsch, Kevin Vilbig and Dan Carlson helped the Bulldogs get the victory in a very tough game. Goalie Anthony Avitable once again led the defense by recording over a half-dozen saves and Anthony Ciaravino, along with his defensive partners, neutralized the Mineola offense.

The seventh-grade baseball team won in dramatic fashion against Howitt. In the top of the seventh inning, Casey Hastings threw a runner out trying to take home. Then in the bottom of the seventh, trailing 5-4, Mike Manganiello hit a grand slam homerun to win the game. Chris Cutrone, Tommy Ucaner, Peter Tucci and Frank LaLima all had hits.

The girls' seventh-grade softball team opened their season against Berner by defeating them 11-0. Pitcher Taylor Tedeschi and catcher Justine Abramowski played well together. Taylor struck out 16 batters, while Justine stopped anyone from stealing. Andrea Barbera hit a solo homerun and a grand slam homerun, driving in a total of five RBI's.

The eighth-grade softball team lost to an outstanding team from Berner. The girls played very well in the loss exhibiting some outstanding defense. Michelle Giordano did a great job of keeping the team in the game with a solid pitching performance. Outstanding defensive plays were made by Dana Colleluori, Dina Cooper, Kathryn Bruno and Alison Leonick. Jenna Gallante executed a perfect bunt and added a stolen base. Samantha Wierzbicki and Gina Lyons played a good game in the catcher position.
