The Varsity Baseball Club upped its overall record to 5-1 with a 1-0 victory over Roslyn. This game was for the baseball purist. It featured good defense and an outstanding pitchers' duel between Roslyn All-County pitcher Mike Strachtman and Island Trees own Matt Gelormino. Gelormino was outstanding, tossing a complete game 2-hitter with 1 walk allowed and 6 strikeouts.

The Bulldogs could only muster 1 hit off Strachtman, but made it count. Justin Muscarella led off the top of the 4th with a line single up the middle, but was forced out on a Dave Darcy grounder to short. Darcy then stole 2nd base to set the stage. Joe Vaskas hit a hard grounder that the Roslyn shortstop threw away for an error to score Darcy with the only run of the game.

Paul Manganiello, Matt Acton, Justin Muscarella, Joe Vaskas, Frankie Baglivo and Anthony Jeannetti all played solid defense in the victory. Not to be overlooked was Paul DelGiacco's fine play behind the plate, framing pitches and stopping the running game.

The Varsity Softball team defeated Carle Place 7-2. Meghan Biondolillo went 2-4 with 2 doubles and Jillian McGovern went 2-3 with her second homerun of the season. The Lady Bulldogs played outstanding offense and defense to put together this win.

The JV Softball team is going into the holiday vacation on a happy note. They defeated Syosset 15-2 after losing a close game to Carle Place 8-7. They go into the break with a record of 4-2. Stephanie Kaiser's pitching was outstanding. Timely hitting by Christina Sarchie, Stephanie Fabis and Nichole Coradini produced a bunch of runs (Ashley Alesi, Nichole Coradini and Christina Sarchie all hit homeruns.) The defensive play of Val LaSala, Kristin Vesely, Danielle Hastings, Laura Benvenuto and Jess Ciserano was very steady. Many fine plays were made. Kim Dazzo and Angela DeLardi (along with several other players) added another dimension to the offense with their speed on the bases. The team is hoping to strengthen their depth when Danielle Doller and Jen Abramowski come back healthy.

The Girls' Track and Field team competed at the Nassau County Relays at Mitchell Field. The Lady Bulldogs were led in the mile medley relay team by Michelle Meyer, Val Ahrens, Sam Cranmer and Michelle Duffy, who finished first in the county with an outstanding time of 4 minutes, 29 seconds.

The Island Trees Boys' Varsity Track team competed at Roslyn HS. The Bulldogs came in 2nd place in the 3 team meet, defeating New Hyde Park and almost defeating a very good Roslyn team. The meet came down to the last relay and Roslyn won the 4 x 800 giving them the win. The Bulldogs were led by Julio Fuentes, who won the 200 meter dash, Mike Battafarano, who won the 3200 meter run and Alex Romero, who won the 110 high hurdles.

It was a "barn burner," but the Varsity Badminton team took down the East Rockaway Rocks 4-3 at East Rockaway. The match was tied 3-3 with 3rd Doubles Amy Strickland and Lauren Wielgus left to play. Amy and Lauren won their first game 15-3, but lost their second 15-10. The third game proved to be a real "nail biter" as both teams exchanged points back and forth. Thankfully, the Lady Dawgs pulled through with a gritty, 15-11 win. The Lady Dawgs are 4-1 with the always tough Lynbrook Owls after the holiday break.

The JV Boys' Lacrosse team improved their record to 3-4 by defeating the Clarke Rams. The boys had a decisive 8-1 victory and were led by attack man Billy Gladitsch, who had a breakout game. The midfielders were led by Danny Carlson and Stephan Barea, who controlled the tempo of the game and had numerous ground balls. Defensively, the Bulldogs kept their composure throughout the whole game and limited the Clarke Offense. The defense was anchored by outstanding goalie play from Anthony Avitable, who let up only 1 goal. It was a great job by all the players.
