The Division Avenue Varsity Baseball Team opened its league season with a thrilling 2-1 victory over a very good Clarke High School team. Chris Sanabria was the winning pitcher for Division, scattering three hits while recording 10 strikeouts. The key to the Division Victory was very strong defense by shortstop Brian Grubb, third baseman Sean Connochie and Chris Bauer and a thrilling catch by Pat Carroll. Division scored its two runs on superlative base running by Brian Grubb, Rob Moschetto and Chris Bauer.
On Tuesday, the Dragons did not fare as well, as they dropped a 7-5 thriller to Seaford High School. Sean Connochie led Division with two hits and once again played a stellar third base. The bright spot for Division was its never-say-die attitude. Despite being down 7-2 in the last inning, the Dragons rallied for three runs and had bases loaded when the game ended on a very questionable out call by the first base umpire.
The Dragons played Bethpage on Thursday and found themselves down 10-1 going into the sixth inning. Once again the Dragons bounced back, scoring six runs in the last two innings and left bases loaded in the sixth and seventh innings,.
Brian Grubb led Division with two hits and two RBIs, while other big hits were recorded by Sean Connochie with a triple, Pat Carroll with a triple, Ryan Hayes with a two-RBI hit.
