Over the past few weeks Kevin Covais' name has crossed the lips of celebrities such as Ellen DeGeneres and Jennifer Love Hewitt. A search of his name brings up 17 items on eBay.
At the same time, the Island Trees High School junior's success on Fox's American Idol television show has been on the minds of countless others in Levittown.
Principal Bill Kealy invited the Island Trees community to join together in support at the high school during Covais' latest performances on March 1 and 8. The episode was aired in the school's auditorium, with attendees casting their votes via text message or phone call for Covais.
"The event was well-attended by over 400 students, staff, community members, board members and the Superintendent of Schools Mr. Parla," Kealy said. "The energy and the excitement in the room were incredible. The atmosphere was absolutely electric."
The competition is heating up as Covais narrowly escaped being voted off during last week's results show. His solo performance of Marvin Gaye's I Heard it Through the Grapevine won praise from two of the three judges.
This week Covais competed for his spot in the top 12 contestants on Wednesday night, however the results were not available at press time.
