American Legion 1711 Honors Local Heroes
On Friday, March 3, American Legion Post 1711 held a ceremony honoring the achievements of a select group of hometown heroes. Achieving results in charitable work, the seven recipients showed true "Americanism," as Post Orator Commander Andy Booth stated. The honorees came from all walks of life.

Blue Dragons Earn Post-Season Honors
The 2005-2006 basketball season has ended but not without a few accolades for the Division Avenue Blue Dragons boys basketball team. Coach John Lipani is pleased to report that two Blue Dragon basketball players were recently selected for the Nassau County All-Conference Team. Congratulations is extended to senior Cody Lapp and junior Brian Maini for garnering All-Conference status for the 2005-2006 basketball season. Coach Lipani and the entire coaching staff are proud of both players for achieving such an honor.

MacArthur Students Reach Out to New Orleans Athletes
Sometimes motivation comes from the least likely of places. When 7-year-old Erin Ware was viewing a TV segment on Hurricane Katrina, she asked her big brother, Joey Quiros, "What toys are they going to play with now?" After a quick moment, Joey had an idea. He then called his friends, Matt Mege, Chris Witcomb, Michael Gattus and Bobby Thomas. Together, they brainstormed and created Project Playball.
