Levittown Kiwanis President Peter Ray (right) thanks LISC Division Lieutenant Governor Warren Kalmenson for visiting the club.

Kiwanis clubs are organized in about 50 districts around the world, each district encompassing a state or province, group of states or provinces, or one or more nations. A district governor and other district officers lead each district. Within each district, Kiwanis clubs are grouped into divisions, such as the Long Island South Central Division which encompasses 19 clubs. A lieutenant governor leads each division, visiting the clubs in his or her division and advising them on administrative and service matters.

Warren Kalmenson, the Lieutenant Governor of the Long Island South Central Division of Kiwanis, recently visited the Levittown Club to learn firsthand about some of the club's projects and other news. Club President Peter Ray was happy to tell the lieutenant governor that the Levittown Kiwanis Club would be inducting four new members at its March 2 meeting.

This past weekend seven members of the Levittown Kiwanis Club traveled to the Hudson Valley Resort and Spa to attend the New York District Kiwanis Mid-Winter Conference. The conference included forums, educational programs and a celebration of past accomplishments. At the conference it was announced that the Levittown Kiwanis Club received distinguished status for the 2004-2005 year. In order to receive the distinguished designation clubs must meet numerous criteria including sponsoring and fulfilling their responsibilities to a sponsored organization or program (KKids, Builders Club, Key Club, Circle K, Aktion Club and Kiwanis Junior); participating in the Young Children: Priority One program; being represented at both the mid-year conference and district convention; and having a net gain in membership of at least one member by the end of the administrative year. The club will receive the distinguished club banner patch, a distinguished lapel button for the president and secretary for the past year, and a certificate from the International President acknowledging this achievement.
