The Island Trees Wrestling team defeated Plainedge 30-19 to win the league championship. The Bulldogs saved their best for the Red Devils, winning eight of 13 bouts. The team went ahead for good when senior Joe Ambrosio used a powerful double leg takedown to pin 4th-ranked Joe Minicci. Other winners were Matt Eberlein, Bryan Henriques, Dan Eberlein, Kris Kellam, Chris Coradini, Ever Reyes and Scott Smath. Thanks to all of the fans for supporting the team.
The Island Trees JV boys' basketball team added another win onto its record by defeating Valley Stream South by the score of 75-56. The Bulldogs are now 6-0 in the league and 10-1 overall on the season. The one loss came with one second left against MacArthur by the score of 54-53. The bulldogs are averaging over 65 points per game and their tough man-to-man defense makes it extremely difficult for opponents to score. A strong sophomore class and a skilled freshman class have created a well-balanced team that is a threat from the outside, the inside and when running the floor. The roster includes Captain Frank Baglivo, Captain Justin Heisig, Captain Ronnie Modik, Shawn Fenton, Eric O'Reilly, John Bruno and Jesse Matarese who are the sophomores. Freshmen include Ryan Tolan, John Howard, Dan Schultz, Tom Hart, John Thearle, Andy Kahl and Dylan Caragher. The Bulldogs continue to work hard and continue to improve with each game.
