A special meeting was called by the Levittown Board of Education on Jan. 25, in addition to the previously scheduled planning session for that night, at Levittown Memorial Education Center. The only item on the night's agenda was to settle the long existing decision over the Volunteer Firefighter and Volunteer Ambulance Worker Exemption. The State Assembly recently reached an agreement on new, stronger protections from sex offenders. The new law, signed into law by Governor Pataki shortly thereafter, lengthens the amount of time sex offenders remain on the State's Sex Offender Registry. FULL STORY

The Island Trees Wrestling team defeated Plainedge 30-19 to win the league championship. The Bulldogs saved their best for the Red Devils, winning eight of 13 bouts. The team went ahead for good when senior Joe Ambrosio used a powerful double leg takedown to pin 4th-ranked Joe Minicci.
