Weitzman: Nassau County Has Too Many Layers of Government
"Nassau County has too many layers of government. In addition to the county, three towns, two cities and 64 villages, there are more than 200 other districts with taxing authority, not including school and library districts. They have wildly varying tax rates, and, unfortunately, many of them have little or no public accountability," said Comptroller Howard Weitzman at a Dec. 19 press conference in Mineola.

Corbin Looks to Unseat Jacobs as Presiding Officer
Nassau County may have a new presiding officer come Jan. 3 if members of the 19-member legislature vote in favor of Roger Corbin (2nd L.D.), the current deputy presiding officer, over current seat holder Judy Jacobs (16th L.D.).

Great job by the Girls Varsity and JV Bowling teams on their wins over Wantagh. Excellent games were bowled by Nichole Coradini, Amy Strickland and Jackie Buckley. The boys bowling teams had a good day too. The highlight was Nick Testut with a 231.

LI Lacrosse Players Memorial Dedicated at Farmingdale State
When the obituaries for those who perished on September 11, 2001 were printed, members of the LI Metropolitan Lacrosse Foundation (LIMLF) observed that many of the victims were lacrosse players or coaches in the metropolitan New York area.
