MacArthur High School senior football lineman Karl Anderson has been honored with two prestigious and popular awards, crowning a season of accolades for #52 of the Generals.
At the Nassau County Football Dinner on Dec. 5, the Long Island Association of Football Officials presented Karl with its annual Unsung Hero Award. The LIAFO Foundation annually honors overachieving varsity football players whose participation requires personal sacrifice and, while playing time may be limited, without whom there would be no team. Karl is one of only four players, out of a field of over 2,000, to receive the award and accompanying $1,500 scholarship.
Karl received the Richard Welsch Award, given by the MacArthur Football Booster Club, at a team dinner on Dec. 6. The award celebrates the dedication, sportsmanship and team spirit that Karl's name has become synonymous with. The award is especially meaningful for Karl because it is voted on by the entire team, and he accepted the plaque with typical heartfelt simplicity: "It's terrific."
