For the third year, the Levittown Historical Society sponsored its Most Beautiful Levittown House and Garden Contest. The prize, a gift certificate to Domenicos, was awarded at the Oct. 17 general meeting at the Levittown Library. It went to Joseph and Diane Kessell of Blue Spruce Lane in Levittown. The following is an excerpt of the letter written by Joseph and submitted along with photos of his home.

"It gives us great pleasure and honor to submit our house in your Home and Garden Contest. I tried to take pictures that best represent our home and its surrounding gardens. I think that both exemplify that very well. Our garden began some 21 years ago when we first purchased our house in June of 1984. Ever since, we have grown almost all our own flowers, shared and swapped cuttings with neighbors and friends to where it is today. This is not a professionally designed garden, but a garden out of love for flowers and shrubs. It gives us great pleasure to have neighbors and complete strangers stop and comment on how the garden looks and the pleasure it gives them. It makes all the work that much more rewarding. Back in 1996 a book was published called Long Island, The Golden Isle. In the book, which describes both in writing and with photos all of the communities of Long Island, the publishers picked our house to represent a typical Levitt house. We are so proud to have our little humble home representing the first true subdivision of its kind in America."
