Kiwanians Tom Mawn, Mauro Cassano, Kevin Regan, Susie Trenkle and Gary Crozier prepare Thanksgiving food baskets to be distributed to local families.

Members of the Levittown Kiwanis Club spent the Saturday before Thanksgiving preparing holiday food baskets for less fortunate families in Levittown and Island Trees. The food for the baskets was donated from community members over the last several weeks. The club will continue to collect food to prepare baskets for the upcoming season. Anyone interested in making a food donation can drop it off at Dr. Jack Hickey's office: 2870 Hempstead Turnpike, Levittown.
Speakers are frequently scheduled to speak at Kiwanis Club meetings on topics with which they are familiar. On Thursday Dec. 17, David Pincus, an attorney with the firm Schoenfeld, Schoenfeld & Pincus spoke to members of the Levittown Kiwanis Club about Personal Injury Law.
Mr. Pincus discussed the evolution of personal injury law and discussed the three elements needed for a lawsuit to be successful. He noted that the plaintiff must prove that someone did something wrong, there must be damages and there has to be money that can be sought. He also described some of his cases and gave some practical tips to those at the meeting.
On Dec. 8 Harriet Steinburg will provide the club with updated Medicare and Medicaid information.
The Levittown Kiwanis Club meets Thursday nights at 6:30 p.m. at La Focaccia Restaurant, 70 East Village Green, Levittown. Telephone: 796-4461. Guests are welcome. Please join us and learn about the positive role Kiwanis plays in the community.
Terrific Kids is a program that provides schools with a tool to reward students for special achievements that may otherwise go unnoticed. The Levittown Kiwanis Club has scheduled the following Terrific Kids programs in each of the elementary and middle schools in the Levittown and Island Trees districts for the upcoming months: Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 9:15 a.m. at Wisdom Lane Middle School; Friday, Dec. 16 at 1:15 p.m. at Abbey Lane School; Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 9:15 a.m. at Wisdom Lane Middle School; Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 9:10 a.m. at Gardiners Avenue School; Monday, Jan. 23 at 2:25 p.m. at East Broadway School.
On Friday Dec. 16, the Levittown Kiwanis Club will host its annual holiday party for students in the Summit Lane DLC Program. This is a special event that is as enjoyable for the Kiwanis members who get to see the joy on the children's faces as it is for the children who each receive a present from Santa.
