The Levittown Kiwanis Club sponsors four Key clubs, the high school equivalent of Kiwanis: the Division Avenue High School Key Club, the MacArthur High School Key Club, the Gerald Claps Career and Technical Center Key Club and the Island Trees High School Key Club.

The Key Clubs are student run replicas of our Levittown Kiwanis Club. The students pay dues to join, elect local and national officers, meet on a weekly basis and go to a state convention. In addition, they decide on fundraisers to help with their charities such as: holiday food baskets, sending kids to camp, buying toys for needy children and helping senior citizens.

They raise all their own money and put it back into the community and perform a wonderful service for Levittown.

Members of the Division Avenue High School Key Club and the GC Tech Key Club attended the Nov. 17 meeting of the Levittown Kiwanis Club. Both clubs spoke about the different fundraisers they have participated in including the Cancer Walk, Lupus Walk and Katrina Relief efforts.

Rickie Santer, vice president of the Division Avenue Key Club announced his plans to run for Lieutenant Governor of the local Key Club Division, which oversees numerous key clubs in the area and asked for the support of the Levittown Kiwanis Club.

In addition to their report of their activities, members of the GC Tech Key Club presented the Levittown Kiwanis Club with a large bag of drink flip tops which are donated to a local hospital and used to help patients receive items such as toothbrushes, etc. The Levittown Kiwanis Club collects soda/drink flip top tabs, General Mills box tops and Campbell Soup labels. The box tops and soup labels go to St. Jude's Ranch for Children. When St. Jude's reaches 300,000 box tops and soup labels they are able to redeem them for a Chrysler Caravan.

The Levittown Kiwanis Club was extremely grateful to the key club members for their donation and for all the efforts of each of the key clubs.

When you see one of their fundraisers advertised, please support these dedicated students. You will be very pleased with the caliber of young people that are in the key clubs.

The Key Clubs are one of Levittown's Kiwanis Club's greatest assets. Our future Levittown Kiwanians are in front of our eyes.

Speakers are frequently scheduled to speak at Kiwanis Club meetings on topics with which they are familiar.

On Dec. 8 Harriet Steinburg will provide the club with updated Medicare and Medicaid information.

The Levittown Kiwanis Club meets Thursday nights at 6:30 p.m. at La Focaccia restaurant, 70 East Village Green, Levittown, NY 11756. Telephone: 796-4461. Guests are welcome. Please join us and learn about the positive role Kiwanis plays in the community.

Terrific Kids is a program that provides schools with a tool to reward students for special achievements that may otherwise go unnoticed. On Friday, Dec. 16, the Levittown Kiwanis Club will host its Annual Holiday Party for students in the Summit Lane DLC Program. This is a special event that is as enjoyable for the Kiwanis members who get to see the joy on the children's faces as it is for the children who each receive a present from Santa.

Look for the Kiwanis Korner in the Levittown Tribune every week.
