Jodie Schoppmann, an All-American runner at SUNY Potsdam, has been selected as the 2005 recipient of the State University of New York Athletic Conference's Dr. Dolores Bogard Award. The award is presented annually to a junior or senior athlete with the best combination of academic and athletic ability. Schoppmann is the first woman from SUNY Potsdam to receive this honor. The Island Trees Boys' Varsity Soccer team ended the season in impressive style making the playoffs. It started with an upset victory over first-place team Floral Park 2-0. Brian Balvin and John Pascale each had a goal in a game that knocked Floral Park out of first place. The Bulldogs continued their good play, earning a 1-1 tie vs. Wantagh. Balvin continued his goal-scoring ways netting the go-ahead goal, only to see Wantagh tie the game late. The Bulldogs had one game left and needed a win to make the playoffs.
