I just returned home from Wisdom Lane's community drop-off date for their Hurricane Relief Project to benefit Bogalusa Middle School in Louisiana and I am a bit overwhelmed with the students' efforts. Although many groups are involved in the project, it was spearheaded by the administration, staff and students at Wisdom Lane. Through their efforts the Bogalusa Middle School will receive about 450 student desks; a complete computer lab, along with some additional computers for classroom use; science lab tables; huge amounts of basic school supplies and student backpacks. At the drop-off point, students were busy cleaning desks and chairs, wrapping computer parts and boxing school supplies while a huge tractor trailer was being loaded in the parking lot. In addition, the students hope to raise about $10,000 by the time their fund-raising efforts are completed. It was really refreshing to watch students doing this hands-on community service project, knowing their efforts are going to help children their same ages in another part of the country whose need is so great. Having watched the devastation on television, I know I felt helpless to do something that would really matter. I believe the students in Levittown made a contribution that really matters and that they are all the richer for having done so. Congratulations to all involved with this outstanding project.
