Friday, Oct. 21, kicked off for Homecoming at Island Trees. They knew it was going to be a good weekend when the Girls Varsity Soccer team defeated Garden City 4-2.
This game set the stage for a great weekend for Island Trees Athletics. On Friday the Boys Varsity Soccer team tied Wantagh 1-1. This placed the Bulldogs firmly in the Nassau County playoff picture. A goal scored by Brian Balvin highlighted this exciting game.
After a successful Homecoming Dance on Friday night, the Bulldogs were ready to take the football field against a good West Hempstead team. Joe Ciaravino had a career day. Joe led the team in rushing with 177 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs to a 23-9 victory.
That evening 18 athletes and three coaches were inducted into the Island Trees Athletic Hall of Fame. It was a great evening, which began with a cocktail hour, followed by dinner. About 200 people attended the dinner/ceremony. Sixteen athletes from the years 1996-2000 were inducted. Also one athlete from 1970 and one from 1992 were inducted. This exciting event capped off a wonderful Homecoming for the Bulldogs.
