The Nassau County Veterans Monument Fund, Inc. has announced the dedication of the Vietnam Monument at noon on Sunday, Nov. 6 at Veterans Plaza, in Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, (use parking lot 6).

Stirring Tribute to Local Legend Doug Robbins
In a moving ceremony on Sunday, Oct. 23, Division Avenue High School dedicated its varsity baseball field to coach Doug Robins. The most winning coach in Division history. Robins, described as a legend, an icon, and a hero, was diagnosed with a brain tumor in March of this year. Despite his recent diagnosis Robins still abides by the work ethic he perfected during 38 years as a teacher in the Levittown school system and still comes in to work every day as a coach. "Doug is an amazing man and he has taught us a lot about facing adversity with dignity," said Division principal Kathy Valentino. The more than 100 people who attended the ceremony were testament to the fact that a more fitting tribute could not have been paid to Coach Doug Robins.

Island Trees Athletics
The Island Trees boys JV soccer team finished off the first half of the season with a 4-0 victory over Seaford; Dave Valencia led the attack with 2 goals and an assist. Shaun Rutherford converted a penalty shot for a goal and Dan Carlson scored his first goal of the season on a breakaway. He placed a perfect ball in the corner of the net that left the goalie with no chance. The boys are currently 4-0-2 in league play and look to extend their excellent play in the second half of the season.
