Alfred Carpentier, a Long Island entrepreneur and lifelong philanthropist, died on Sept. 30, 2005 after an eight-month battle with post operative complications from colon cancer surgery. He was born in Brooklyn, on Aug. 14, 1925. A US Navy WWII veteran, Al was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Columbia University and Columbia Law School.

Al was active in many charitable endeavors that included the Long Island Association, the Boy Scouts of America, the U.S.O., the East Meadow Kiwanis Club and the East Meadow Little League Baseball and Softball Association. In 1962, Al began as an assistant coach. Ten years later, while serving as commissioner, his vision and stewardship combined the efforts of government, organized labor, the business community and the East Meadow Little League Board of Directors to create a baseball field complex in East Meadow. A field is named in his honor.

Al remained active in the East Meadow Little League as a past commissioner and life member and in 2002 he was a Golden Honoree at the East Meadow Little League 50th Anniversary Celebration. Al is remembered as a keen intellect with a joyful sense of humor. He was selflessly devoted to his family and was a tireless advocate of helping others in need.

Al is survived by his wife of 52 years, Eva; his son Bob (Cindy); his sons, Glenn, Gary (Katja); his grandchildren Bobby, Andrew and Alex; and his sister Inez of Plano, TX.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the LIL Memorial Endowment Fund/Alfred Carpentier, 131 Brookville Rd., Brookville, NY 11545.
