Hempstead Town Receiver of Taxes Don Clavin, Hempstead Town Councilman Gary Hudes, Police Officer Raymond Stiehle, Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray, Police Officer James Rail and Hempstead Town Clerk Mark Bonilla.

Police Officers James Rail and Raymond Stiehle were among the 10 Nassau County police officers, 12 county detectives, three village police officers, one village lieutenant and one village sergeant honored by Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and the Town Board at a special ceremony on Sept. 20.

The officers were honored for putting their lives on the line pursuing criminals and maintaining order and facilitating rescues in crises. In addition, the supervisor noted that many officers are involved in youth programs offering children the uniquely positive influence of law enforcement professionals.

"From solving murders and extensive undercover work to patrolling our streets, our police honorees have distinguished themselves as local heroes," said Murray. "Police officers in our towns and villages make significant sacrifices every day to ensure our safety and maintain our peaceful neighborhoods. The town is proud to have the opportunity to recognize those who serve and protect our residents."

While on patrol or responding to radio assignments, Officers Stiehle and Rail exhibit a level of thoroughness that guarantees success. Whether in pursuit, apprehending a suspect, intensifying street patrols or canvassing neighborhoods, Officers Stiehle and Rail always proceed to get the job done and get it done right.

"The level of commitment and bravery demonstrated by these two officers in the past several months gives evidence to their professionalism and dedication to the community," Murray said. "Because of their comprehensive approach, their patrol work has helped to apprehend subjects involved in robberies, illegal drug use, and gang related violence. Our streets are safer today, because of these two dedicated law enforcement officers."

Murray commended each of the award recipients for their exemplary service and stated that residents live and raise their families in local communities because they feel safe in their homes and on the streets as a result of the officers' service.

Murray concluded, "I would like to thank the men and women in police service in Hempstead Town. We respect your work in our communities, admire your capacity to deal with the complexities of modern society and are grateful for your dedication to our personal well-being. You make us proud every day of the year."
