Manhattan head baseball coach Kevin Leighton recently announced that Levittown resident Ryan Darcy has been hired as an assistant coach for the baseball program. Darcy will work primarily with the pitching staff, but will assist in all aspects of the program.

Darcy, a 2003 Division Avenue High School graduate, played baseball for Coach Doug Robins.

"Ryan was a tremendous student-athlete and one of the program's all-time leaders as a pitcher," commented Leighton. "Since graduation, Ryan has played professionally along with working as a pitching coach throughout the summer leagues. He brings a wealth of knowledge and motivation to the program and will complete what I feel is one of the best staffs in the country."

Darcy returns to Riverdale after having played two seasons with the Can-Am League's New Jersey Jackals. Darcy posted a 2-2 record over 46 innings for the Jackals, making four starts. He was part of a combined one-hitter for the Jackals in 2003, one of just four in the history of the team. Darcy was a four-year letter winner, and is the all-time program leader in wins (24), innings pitched (341.1), appearances (60), complete games (17), and starts (47), and is second all-time in strikeouts (253). He also holds the single season records for wins (8), complete games (6), and innings pitched (106.2).

"It's great to be back at Manhattan College, and I can't think of a better place to start my coaching career," noted Darcy. "Coach Leighton's enthusiasm for the sport is contagious and I am looking forward to helping the program continue its recent success. I am already familiar with several of the returning pitchers, and I am excited about working with the incoming players as well."

Manhattan posted a 27-21 record last season, and advanced to the MAAC Tournament for the third straight season.
