Suozzi Presents No Tax Increase Budget
Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi presented a budget for 2006 and for the third consecutive year, the budget reflects no tax increase for the property owners of the county. In addition, because the county will not be receiving any financial help from the Nassau Interim Finance Authority (NIFA), Suozzi believes the fiscal crisis that has plagued the county in recent years is over.

Construction of Underground, Underwater Cable Scheduled to Begin
Neptune Regional Transmission System (RTS) LLC recently announced that construction of the Neptune RTS, a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine/underground electric transmission cable was scheduled to begin on or around Sept. 19. The cable, which will extend from Sayreville, NJ to the Long Island Power Authority's (LIPA) substation on Newbridge Road, will provide LIPA with access to additional energy sources.

Island Trees High School Athletics
The Girls' Varsity Soccer team started the season in tough Conference I. Their first game was against Massapequa, last year's undefeated champion (tied with South Side). Although they were defeated 3-0, Coaches Goldberg and Schneider were pleased with their performance. Goalie Jen Macaro was outstanding, making some unbelievable saves. The girls played tough and were complimented by the Massapequa coaches and also the referees. Both coaches are expecting to build on this game to keep a high profile. Captains Kate Moore, Meghan Sguigna and Michelle Topel are setting the tone for a fine season with their leadership.
