Laughter has been called the best medicine. With that in mind, Long Island veteran comics, Bob Nelson and Paul Bond will be joined by several other popular local comedians at "Stand Up for the Victims of Hurricane Katrina," two fund-raisers scheduled for the evenings of Wednesday, September 21 and Thursday September 22 at two of the Island's top comedy clubs. The proceeds from both benefits will be donated to The Salvation Army to be earmarked for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

On Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 8 p.m., Governor's Comedy Cabaret will host "Stand up For Victims of Hurricane Katrina." The headliner for the evening will be celebrated comic, Bob Nelson. Also performing that night are: Peter Pitofsky, Julia Minerva, Joe Currie, and Wyatt the One Man Riot. The emcee will be comic, Billy Bingo, a retired member of the FDNY.

The entire proceeds from ticket sales from both shows will be donated to The Salvation Army for Hurricane Katrina relief. The advance tickets are $20 and can be reserved by calling Governor's Comedy Cabaret at 516-731-3358 and McGuire's 631-467-5413. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $25 each on the scheduled night of the shows.

"As a NYC firefighter I've seen tragedy first hand," said Billy Bingo. "The public's warm and generous response to those who suffered losses on September 11, 2001 made a positive impact. Now, it's time to help those whose lives were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. All the comics are counting on the generous spirit of our fellow Long Islanders to make these fund-raisers a great success."

Long Islander, Bob Nelson, is a quintessential veteran of the comedy stage. Many have declared him as the Red Skelton of the new millennium. His credits include several HBO specials, including solo performances on the network that include "Nelson Schmelson" and "One Night Stand."
