The Levittown Swimming Association (LSA) is in the midst of celebrating its 50th Anniversary (1955 - 2005) and has been holding many special events throughout the summer to commensurate this special year.
On Tuesday, Aug. 2, they will be holding a 50-Mile Swim-A-Thon (50-Miles for 50 years) from 4 to 9 p.m. The association's 500+ swimmers (boys and girls age 8 - 18) will be swimming at the Jerusalem Avenue Pool in Levittown. The nine pools (Acorn, Azaleas, Bluegrass, Carman, Jerusalem, Parkway, Slate, West and Wolcott) that compete against each other during swim meets will join forces, swim as one and accumulate their miles toward the final goal. Each swimmer will swim laps and collect pledges for their miles swam. LSA plans on donating these pledges to local charities in the area. LSA's president, Mike Fallarino, is enthusiastically behind the coaches and swimmers as they are preparing for this event, "not only are our swimmers having fun, but more importantly, they are helping the community where they live in the process."
Next up after the 50-Mile Swim-A-Thon is a trip to the LI Ducks game on Monday, Aug. 8, and the Red Cross One-Mile Swim on Friday, Aug. 20. An old-fashioned family-style picnic will culminate the season at the annual Awards Ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 20.
