Homicide Squad detectives reported a serious motor vehicle accident that occurred in Bethpage on Sunday, July 24 at 3:30 p.m.

Detectives reported that two vehicles entered into a speed contest northbound on Seamans Neck Road. The two vehicles - a 2002 Nissan Altima, operated by Daniel Toscano, 18, and a 2003 Honda Accord operated by Clint Georges, 20, both of Elmont, raced at an excessive speed (approximately 100 miles an hour) when Georges lost control of the Honda and spun sideways and collided head on into a 1998 Dodge Caravan operated by John Smith, 50, of Wantagh. The Honda continued on and struck a parked vehicle and a house at 7 Seamans Neck Road and then two vehicles and a fence at 5 Seamans Neck Road.

Smith and his wife, Doreen suffered upper and lower extremity injuries and were transported to New Island Hospital where they were admitted.

Toscano and Georges were arrested at the scene. Both defendants were charged with two counts of Reckless Endangerment First Degree, one count each of Unauthorized Speed Contest and Reckless Operation of Motor Vehicle. Georges was additionally charged with Unsafe Tires.

Georges and front seat passenger Shaguan Hinson, 17, were transported to Nassau University Medical Center where they were admitted for trauma. He and Toscano are scheduled for arraignment.

All three vehicles were impounded for brake and safety checks.
