Two Levittown students who took part in the Kiwanis HOBY (Hugh O'Brien Youth) Leadership Weekend attended the June 30 Levittown Kiwanis Club meeting to discuss their experience and thank the club for sponsoring their attendance at the conference.
Kevin McDonald from MacArthur High School and Dustin Howe from Division Avenue High School discussed the impact that the weekend conference, which was held at St. John's University, had on them. They both said that it was one of the best weekends of their life. They noted that they made many new friends and had a lot of fun but also learned quite a bit. They said that they were taught how to be great leaders, how to network, to be themselves and more. They also heard from a motivational speaker who talked to the soon-to-be high school juniors about not taking life for granted.
Both Kevin and Dustin will be attending a 9-day World Leaders Conference in Washington D.C. later this month as a follow-up to their HOBY experience. The World Leaders Conference will be open to all HOBY attendees, as well as students from all over the United States and 30 different countries. Both young men were very much looking forward to catching up with the friends they made at HOBY weekend and learning even more about being a leader at the upcoming conference.
The Levittown Kiwanis Club will be co-sponsoring the Lazy Days of Summer Picnic at the East Village Green on July 16 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Kiwanis will be doing face painting and tattoos at the picnic.
