Island Trees Board of Education Robert Condela presents a plaque to retiring Board Member Ronald Tauss.

At the May 29 Island Trees Board of Education meeting, Ronald Tauss was honored for 24 years of service as a member of the board of education. Tauss did not seek re-election.
Tauss was first elected in June 1981 and served for three consecutive terms as vice president from 1985-88. He served as board of education president during the 1988-89 school year.
Tauss has served as board of education liaison to the assistant superintendent for special education and has attended many SEPTA and special education functions on behalf of the Island Trees School District. Over the last 24 years, Tauss has brought to every work session and board of education meeting, sensitivity to the needs of special education children. He has helped his fellow trustees and district educators to better understand the needs and problems of special education students.
Tauss' performance has been one of articulate, careful deliberation and action that has aided in the improvement of staff, curriculum and course offerings. He diligently advocated the need for capital programs and long-range planning which has resulted in improvement of buildings and grounds throughout the district. Tauss' tenure on the board of education has enhanced the district on all levels.
The board of education and administration saluted and thanked Tauss for his years of dedicated service to the children and residents of the Island Trees School District. Robert Condela, president of the board of education, presented Tauss with a plaque in appreciation for his many years of fine service to the district.
