The Levittown School District has proposed a budget for the 2005-2006 school year that calls for a tax increase of only 2.6 percent, the lowest increase in all of Nassau County, and among the lowest increases for district residents in over 20 years. The 2.6 percent tax increase was made possible by the voters' support of the district's multi-year budget planning process in recent years and by an increase in the amount of state aid scheduled for the 2005-2006 school year. The district's proposed five-year budget plan, including the 2005-2006 proposed budget, has been endorsed by many community organizations, including the Levittown Property Owners Association, the voting membership of the Levittown Council of PTAs, and the Levittown-Island Trees Youth Council.
The proposed multi-year budget plan, not only assures a low tax increase next year, but also projects lower-than-average tax increases for the next five years. Continued community support for the district's multi-year budget plans will enable the Levittown Board of Education to provide stable and modest tax levy increases, and high standards of learning for all students for many years to come.
